As a painter focussed on portraiture and the figure, I explore the use of paint to capture the essence of a human being.

My work is driven by a fascination with oil paint – how its physical qualities can be manipulated to approximate flesh and a combination of colours can suddenly read as skin, how brush strokes can transform a flat surface into something that feels alive, and how an expressive painting can convey more about a person that a photographic rendering ever could.

After graduating with a degree in sculpture from Winchester School of Art in 2005, I began painting in 2020. My background in three-dimensional thinking informs how I approach the figure on canvas, always conscious of form, weight and presence.
